Batey takes NWA opener in impressive fashion

Dwain Batey is the defending state champ and former AOY, he proved why by dominating the season opener for the NSKA NWA group.

“Stellar day on the water, I caught 4 fish in the first 14 minutes, and then ground out the rest of the day catching a fish every 30 minutes to an hour, and 5 of those just happened to be hammers. I was super excited to find that the rain had pushed that green slime out of some of the lake. Because of this I could throw the red flat sided crankbait that I caught a nice fish on during practice Tuesday, but would get covered in that slime every cast on Wednesday. 4 of my 5 final fish were on that little bait including the big girl. I caught a few fish in practice but I hadn’t been to the lake other than those 4 hours or so since before the big ice storm, so I had no idea I would be able to grind out that many inches. It’s always a good time when I can catch fish on a crankbait.”
